About D&M CompanyThe owners of D&M company started out as commercial flat roofing contractors in 1979. In the late seventies most flat roofs were tar and gravel. We eventually converted to rubber roofs, and then to residential roofing. We expanded the company by adding vinyl siding, seamless gutters and replacement windows. From there we started building decks. Decks led to decks with roofs. This led to additions. Additions led to whole house remodeling, and to the building of new homes. During the first oil embargo of the late seventies, customers began to make their houses more energy efficient. They caulked, added insulation, improved heating systems, installed replacement windows etc. Unfortunately "tightening" up the house led to moisture problems. Attics started to collect water (from condensation), and plywood sheathing started to rot. Along with that rot was mold. To rid the attic of moisture a new product was invented, the "ridge vent". However the ridge vent by itself did not draw enough air from the attic. Soffit vents were installed to help with air flow. We began to get more and more calls for attic ventilation and mold problems. Customers began asking us to not only to inspect the attic, but to "check out" the rest of the house . We discovered that wet basements are a leading cause of condensation in attics. Solving the wet basement issue to cure the attic problems was the next step. What causes a wet basement? Leaking gutters, drainpipes shedding water next to the foundation, yard grading, overgrown trees and shrubs. Foundation cracks, uncovered sump pumps, leaking plumbing etc. Solving moisture and ventilation problems, requires a lot of research. We consulted with foundation experts, french drain installers, sump pump installers and dehumidification companies. We worked with landscapers, and gutter installers. After all the experience attained from building and remodeling, we realized we needed more specialized training. Training in every system in the house. We became home inspectors as a natural course of doing business. After substantial additional training we joined ASHI and NACHI and became full time home inspectors. However, we continued to receive calls from our customers and other inspectors about mold issues. We had been working with a national chain on different methods and techniques of containment and mold removal. We worked closely with a trained remediation supervisor and eventually joined IAQA and became certified mold remediators. We continue to inspect homes, install ventilation systems, and remove and consult on mold remediation projects. We are also available for air quality testing. Licenses: 1) Unrestricted Construction Supervisor 2) Home Inspector 3) Council Certified Microbial Remediation Supervisor Insurance: 1) E&O (Errors and Omissions) 2) Workman's Compensation 3) General and Professional liability Professional Associations: ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) NACHI (National Association of Certified Home Inspectors) IAQA (Indoor Air Quality Association)
